Good, Bad, and Human

I often find myself telling my children that we are not merely good or bad for it is only our choices that can be described as such. Most everyone would like to think of themselves as a good person, while others may think of them as something else entirely. Honestly, I do not believe that a person is simply good or evil but holds the vast potential to be either. We are not simply written in dark or light. We are very much grey. From that very first day until our inevitable end, every choice made forms each of us into who we will ultimately be. The possibilities are infinite, and the choice is yours alone. So, tell me if you could choose, who is it you wish to become?

Arbitrary thoughts I often think, as we are all learning and hopefully growing as well. I propose only that we strive to live each day intentionally. If it is terrible you intend to be, I suppose you should do so transparently. If good and decent are your intent, then in your actions these characteristics must reflect. In other words, be whomever you set out to be and do so unapologetically. This is not to say that we aren’t all perfectly imperfect beings, we are. Each of us alone should hold ourselves accountable. To be completely honest with oneself, we must always check our intentions.

Good, bad, or perhaps indifferent?

Maybe I don’t know any of these things for certain. I do however know that I never want to go back, I don’t know that girl anymore. After coming so far, I never want to be that person again.

I do fall short though; we all do.

Forgive yourself and begin again.

After all, you’re only human.
